Wood Stove Operation

and Precautions

Successful Woodstove Operation

1) Stack inside the stove crumpled paper or paper egg cartons, then twigs.

2) Above that, arrange progressively larger pieces of wood so they all touch.

3) With long fireplace matches, light paper in several places then close door latch as firmly as possible.

4) Fully open ash drawer cover door below to create an updraft.

5) Behind folding doors, turn water heater up from "low" to "A" setting.

6) Fire should begin to blow upwards aggressively.

7) When wood is sufficiently aflame, close and adjust latch on ash drawer cover door for a moderate flame.

8) When fire is completely out, dump ashes in the ash drawer and fire cavity into the ash pale.

9) Move pail outside to upper deck and pour water into pail to be extra safe.

Safety Precautions:

Be sure the carbon monoxide monitor on the wall near bedrooms is plugged in and operational.

A fire extinguisher is located to the left of the wood stove.

Keep children far away from the woodstove as the exterior gets hot enough to boil water.

NEVER EVER put ashes into anything but the metal ash bucket.

Dump those on the ground outside (never the trash) only after they've been fully submerged in water.
