This song was written for Amanda Marshall who I thought at the time was the finest female rock singer on the planet. I still feel that way despite her rejecting this song and some years later recording a tune that bears, ahem, some similarities.
Amanda released a masterpiece of a debut album way back in 1995 mostly written and produced by David Tyson of "Black Velvet" fame. When I met Amanda I got the vibe from her body language they had a falling out during the making of the record. Both have gone on to, well, nothing in the parking lot of the ballpark of her debut record. And that's a crying shame. So much talent.
Songwriter Douglas Shawe took my first draft lyrics, threw out the title, kept a few lines in the verses, wrote new choruses and improved the song so much I probably should have gotten a complex over it.
Our mutual friend Tom Mgrdichian produced the track and got his friend Brian Reeves to mix it.
